CP2000 - College Match and Fit
This course is designed to further explore and plan for the college selection and application process by examining various options available for post-secondary education. Many students have strong orientations toward particular institutions, often through family ties, school recommendations, or friends' own experiences. Many have aspirational desires propelling them toward the Ivies or other high status colleges and universities. Understanding “match and fit” can help student balance these forces with the realities of their individual personality and values. Student will consider a variety of websites that provide free search options to help them narrow their search as they seek certain characteristics in colleges. The concepts of "match" and "fit," refer to how well students meet the requirements of admission and how well they would integrate into the academic, social, and communal life of the campus. "Match" primarily refers to the numbers: GPA and test scores. "Fit" a much more nebulous concept, refers to how well the prospective student might mesh with the institution once on campus. The coursework for this class is designed to strategically create benchmarks that will coincide with the respective deadlines for the student’s college list. By the end of the course students should feel prepared to navigate the college application process and complete the steps necessary to enroll in a post-secondary institution.
